Ole Cooper will be taking part in the NUTS Challenge He will be doing two laps which will be 14K in total. Doing it at 10am on the Saturday 1st September.
We are all in awe with the lengths that Ole is willing to go to to raise money for the Princes Trust!
On June 2nd 2012, a team of Konica Minolta
colleagues and friends had decided to undertake the “Way of the RosesChallenge”, a 170 plus mile bike ride from the West to the East coast of
England propelled by nothing other than pedal power, steely determination and
an unbelievable quantity of Jelly Babies.
The team was made up of 10 riders, 7 of which were Konica Minolta
staff (from the Warrington, Birmingham and Bristol offices), 3 friends, and one
coordinator (Colin Williamson). The target was to split the journey over 3 days
with overnight stopovers in Grassington and York. Each day involved a number of
sectors to cover ranging in length from 5-15 miles with a brief fluid and food
stop at each sector point. Our support van met us at each point and provided
fuel, shelter and the all-important motivation. Day 1 had excellent weather, a
crash and a couple of tumbles. Day 2 held a far greater challenge over The
Pennines in torrential rain, with a total saddle time of around 10 hours. Day 3
brought with it an improvement in weather and an increase in aches, pains and
punctures. Despite these challenges, and the fact that most of the team were
best described as “casual” or “occasional” cyclists prior to the event, all
parties managed to complete the route before the deadline.
Great friendships were forged, interdepartmental
relationships improved, and a great sense of achievement was shared by all.
Most importantly, the team had a great time and raised over £350 for The
Princes Trust.
Plans are already afoot for a 100KM ride (in one day) in
September and the optimistic but awesome Blackpool Tower to Eiffel Tower route
has even been discussed.
Thanks go to Colin Williamson for his invaluable support
provision along with all the riders:
James Chantler, Owen Childs, Billy Shaw, Richard Dawson,
Brian Chorlton, Tony Burke, Ashley McConnell, Steve Elliot, Dave Brown and Tony
Richmond.
